It starts as soon as I get into the car. “How was school today?”
“Fine.”
“What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
What am I supposed to do? Give a play-by-play of the last seven hours? Should I have taken notes? Worn a Go Pro?
A lot of stuff happened. There were a lot of things. I talked to a lot of people.
“Did you learn anything?”
Yeah I did learn some stuff since it is SCHOOL.
But I just got in the car. Like I just got in the place where I get to zone out and not have to be at max attention and 100% awareness of everything I do and say, can we not start with the rapid fire questions or Guantanamo interrogation?
Listen: I know you miss the preschool days where I had verbal diarrhea and gave you a three-hour monologue down to the color of my pee and a detailed account of my teacher’s sweater, but my day is LONG AND EXHAUSTING and the last thing I want to do is recap it ten seconds after I get in the car.
